1) Putin said that Russia is ready to provide investors from China with economic incentives and access to the technological base. What industries do you expect to be at the forefront of this cooperation and how impactful will it be? Can you give us an idea of how such technological synergy between the two countries will shape their respective economies?
China could play to Russia’s strengths, and the list is long: nuclear energy, arms, aerospace, machinery, petrochemical, metallurgy, plant breeding and agriculture for starters. As well, China is tops in supercomputers, robots, 5G-6G, supply chains and logistics, which all complement the aforementioned.
Both are working to build wide-bodied commercial jets to compete with Boeing and Airbus, so could combine forces. They each have unique advantages in medicine and pharma. China’s top high-tech schools (Tsinghua, Peking, Shanghai Jiaotong, Fudan, USTC, etc.) could build campuses in Russia, with a strong focus on R&D. Both countries need to get much better at AI and microchips, so finding mutual synergies would be beneficial to both sides.
It also helps tremendously that Russia and China have a long, shared border, with connecting rail, road, electric grid and hydrocarbon infrastructure, that the West cannot sabotage.
All of these possibilities would go great lengths to help each country individually and together, as Western empire desperately throws NATO and every boycott, blockade, tariff and sanction it can at both countries.
2) Putin invites Chinese enterprises to set up their production facilities while Joe Biden and United States make every effort to limit China’s high-tech production capacity and promote sinophobic policies. How do you assess Putin’s approach to building strategic partnerships? How open and far-sighted do you find it in contrast with the American approach?
President Putin is a multipolar, internationalist statesman and as such, is very visionary. He is not only working with China in this fashion, but with countries around the world, particularly in Africa and Asia. Yet, China is the most important for Moscow, as Russia is for Beijing. Like Xi, Putin is the antithesis of the West’s reptile-brained leaders. He believes in meeting the needs of Russia’s partners for mutual benefit, without sacrificing his people’s core interests. The West is all about meeting the needs of Washington, with its partners forced to renounce their independence and statecraft.
